Screen sharing, screenshots and the clipboard

Remem hides its windows from screen capture and clears copied secrets. How to share your screen with Remem visible, and the limits.

On macOS, every Remem window is hidden from screen sharing, recordings and screenshots by default. People watching your screen see nothing where Remem is.

Show Remem in a screen share

  1. Choose Security → Allow in screen share… in the menu bar, or switch on Allow this window in screen shares in Settings → Screen capture.
  2. Confirm with Touch ID or your Mac password. The toolbar shows Visible to screen sharing.
  3. When you are done, choose Security → Hide from screen share. Locking the vault also turns protection back on.

Redact secrets in Settings → Screen capture collapses every revealed value back to dots, which is worth doing before you share.

The clipboard

Settings → Locking → Clear copied secrets from the clipboard: After 15 seconds, After 45 seconds (the default), After 2 minutes or Never. Remem only clears the clipboard if it still holds what Remem put there, so it won’t wipe something you copied since. Locking also clears it. The browser extension clears after 45 seconds.

A clipboard-history app, or Universal Clipboard sending your copy to another Apple device, can keep a copy that Remem can’t remove. Exclude Remem in such apps if they allow it.
