What Remem is
An end-to-end-encrypted vault for passwords, 2FA codes and developer secrets, in private alpha for macOS.
Last updated
Remem keeps your passwords, one-time 2FA codes, cards, notes, identities, API keys and SSH keys in one vault. Everything is encrypted on your device before it goes anywhere, with a key made from two secrets: your master password and a Secret Key that is generated on your first device and never sent to a server.
What you get
- A Mac app where you keep and edit everything, with a quick panel in the menu bar or at the screen edge for copying codes.
- A browser extension for Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and others) and Firefox, which fills logins and codes and offers to save new ones.
- The
rememcommand, which hands secrets to one program at a time, works as an SSH agent and as a git credential helper. - Sync through Remem Cloud, through a server you run yourself (its source is shared on request during the alpha), or no sync at all. A sync server only ever stores encrypted data.
- Encrypted backups: every active item in one passphrase-protected file you keep yourself.
What is available today
Remem is a private alpha. It is free, and Remem Cloud needs an invite from the waitlist. The builds we distribute are:
| Build | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Remem for macOS | macOS 11 or later, Apple silicon or Intel |
| Browser extension for Chromium | Chrome 110 or later, or another Chromium browser |
| Browser extension for Firefox | Firefox 115 or later |
remem command-line tool | macOS (it comes inside the Mac download) |
There is no Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android or Safari build to download, and no web vault. If you need one of those, Remem is not ready for you yet.
What it does not do
Better to know now than after you have moved in:
- No account recovery. If you lose your master password, or lose your Secret Key and every device that holds it, nobody can open your vault, including us. See what is and isn’t recoverable.
- No master-password change. The password you choose at setup stays for the life of the vault.
- No sharing. One person, one vault. There are no family or team vaults.
- No passkeys and no file attachments.
- No breach monitoring. By design, nothing in your vault is ever sent to a breach-lookup service.
Where to go next
- Join the waitlist and wait for your invite.
- Install the Mac app.
- Choose where your vault lives.
- Create your vault and save your Emergency Kit.
