Delete your vault account
Permanently delete your vault and everything on the sync server, from the Mac app. What it removes, and what you still need to do on other devices.
Last updated
Your vault account lives on the sync server and is deleted from the Mac app, not from this website. Deleting it can’t be undone, and nobody, including us, can bring it back.
Before you delete
If you might want your items later, save an encrypted backup or a JSON export first. Either can be brought back whole into a new vault; the server export can’t.
Delete it
- Unlock the vault and open Settings → Account. This section only appears when your vault syncs.
- Under Delete account, select Delete account… to open the confirmation form.
- Type your email address where it says “Type <your email> to confirm”.
- Enter your Master password. The server only deletes an account after a fresh sign-in.
- Select Delete account permanently, and confirm with Touch ID or your Mac password.
What happens
- The server deletes your account, devices, sessions, vault and every item straight away.
- This Mac’s copy is removed too.
- Your other devices lock if they are open and online; any others stop syncing. Their encrypted copies stay until you use Settings → This device → Remove vault from this device on each one. Remove the browser extension from your browser too.
- Cloudflare’s point-in-time backups of the Remem Cloud database roll off within 30 days.
- Your website account at remempass.org is not touched. Delete it separately if you want to.
What if…
I don’t see Settings → Account
Your vault is This Device Only, so there is no server account. Use Remove vault from this device instead; see Remove Remem from a Mac.
I no longer know my master password
The app can’t delete the account without it. Write to privacy@remempass.org from the account’s email address and we will delete your Remem Cloud vault account once we have checked the address is yours.
My vault is on my own server
The same steps delete it from your server. As the operator, you can also remove it from your database directly.
