Remove Remem from a Mac
Erase the vault from a Mac and uninstall the app, the command-line tool and the extension, including what dragging the app to the Trash leaves behind.

Dragging Remem to the Trash doesn’t remove your vault: the encrypted data and its Keychain entries stay behind. Do step 1 first.
1. Erase the vault from this Mac
- Unlock Remem and open Settings → This device.
- Select Remove vault from this device and confirm with Touch ID or your Mac password.
This deletes your Secret Key and the Touch ID key from the Keychain, and your vault and settings files from this Mac. It doesn’t touch the copy on the sync server or on your other devices.
Make sure you can get back in
If this is your only device, or your vault is This Device Only, this erases your only copy. Settings says so too. Save an encrypted backup first, or make sure your Emergency Kit and master password open the vault on another device.
2. Remove the app and its helpers
- Quit Remem, then drag Remem from Applications to the Trash.
- If you installed the command-line tool, delete
~/.local/bin/remem. - Remove the browser extension from each browser’s extensions page. In Firefox, a temporary add-on disappears when Firefox quits.
- Delete the small file
ro.pixel8.remem.browser.jsonthat Remem puts in each Chromium browser’sNativeMessagingHostsfolder, so the browser stops looking for the app. - Encrypted backups and exports you saved are ordinary files, in Downloads or wherever you moved them. Delete them yourself if you want them gone; Remem doesn’t track them.
rm -f ~/.local/bin/remem
find ~/Library/Application\ Support -path '*NativeMessagingHosts/ro.pixel8.remem.browser.json' -deleteIf you already deleted the app without step 1
The vault is still on the Mac, encrypted. To remove it:
- Delete the folder
~/Library/Application Support/ro.pixel8.remem. - Open Keychain Access, search for
ro.pixel8.remem, and delete the entries namedro.pixel8.remem.secret-keyandro.pixel8.remem. If you used an early alpha, also delete anyapp.r3mem.vault.secret-keyandapp.r3mem.vaultentries.
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/ro.pixel8.rememWas this missing something? Write to hello@remempass.org.
